Space Jam’s sequel has remained one of, if not the most, anticipated films of the year, and the LeBron James-starred successor to Michael Jordan’s iconic 1996 movie has now received its first trailer ahead of the July 16 debut, with an added musical bonus.

The complete two-and-a-half-minute preview follows the Lakers superstar alongside a group of Looney Tunes staple characters in a basketball crusade to retrieve his kidnapped son, but amidst all of the nostalgia-induced emotions, the trailer’s soundtrack was what specifically caught the ear of the electronic music world. Not even 24 hours removed from the delivery of his “Halloween IX” introduction with ISOxo, RL Grime scored a second win of the week as “Scylla,” his unforgettable VOID classic from 2014, backs the trailer in tandem with the film’s iconic theme song.

Eli Brown unleashes his boisterous three-track Escape EP as part of Insomniac‘s launch of its new underground label Factory 93. Announced earlier in March, Factory 93 will be the third label imprint under the Insomniac umbrella, joining Insomniac Records and the recently formed Lost In Dreams. Factory 93’s underground influences have played an intricate role in building the company’s foundation as Insomniac founder, Pasquale Rotella, shared in a press release,

“Factory 93 represents the beginning of Insomniac. Underground dance music will always be the root of everything we do. Factory 93 is a very passionate part of the Insomniac portfolio worldwide, which makes this new record label even more exciting for us. With the addition of Factory 93 Records, our team will be able to carry over its vision from the live events side into a carefully curated catalog we can’t wait for you guys to hear.”

The Bristol-based producer has built an impressive résumé as of late, notably working with Calvin Harris under his new artist alias Love Regenerator for his April 2020 EP, Moving. Brown’s Escape EP appropriately inaugurates the newly launched label with a blistering combination of decimating basslines and 90s’ influenced underground grooves. Factory 93 is dedicated to bringing the best in underground, techno, and house as the brand is gearing up for its debut of Skyline Festival on Memorial Day Weekend as well as III Points and Secret Project’s two-day outdoor affair in Miami taking place April 30 to May 1.

The EP also includes the ambient intro, “CATALYST,” and two bass-filled tracks in the middle, “HIATUS” and “BLOODLINE,” along with the highly anticipated “SONG SIX” as the project’s closer.

Deathpact has been a Deadbeats favorite, the mysterious artist influencing numerous conspiracies over his identity since the start of his career. Previous releases of Deathpact’s have included collaborations with the likes of REZZ, 1788-L, and Zeds Dead.

California plans to re-open indoor music venues in April

California plans to re-open indoor music venues in AprilBar Crowd

As COVID-19 numbers have been falling, California has announced it will reopen indoor concerts beginning on April 15. Dee Dee Meyers, senior advisor to Governor Gavin Newsom and Director of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, said,

“As we continue to expand vaccine distribution, California is poised for a safe and equitable recovery. We will continue to work with businesses, arts, organizations, community groups and others to open carefully, with health and safety top of mind, so that we never have to go backwards.”

For those who wish to attend concerts, they will have to show either proof of a negative COVID test, or that they have been fully vaccinated. Additionally, concert reopenings will also depend on where each county sits on California’s tier system

Indoor venues in purple tier cities (classified as “widespread” COVID positivity rate) will not be able to reopen. For venues with a capacity of up to 1,500 people, red tier capacity will be limited to 10% or 100 people, with the number allowing 255 if all guests are tested or show proof of vaccination. In venues with a capacity of over 1,500, testing or proof of vaccination is required, with capacity limited to 20%.

Orange tier venues with a capacity of 1,500 will be limited to 15% or 200 people, with capacity increased to 35% with proof of a negative COVID test or full vaccination. Venues with a capacity of over 1,500 will be limited to 10% or 2,000 people, with capacity increased to 35% following proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.

Yellow tier capacity in venues of up to 1,500 will be limited to 25% or 300 people, with capacity increasing to 50% if all guests show proof of a negative test or full vaccination. Venues with more than 1,500 will be limited to 10% or 2,000 people, with capacity increasing to 50% if all guests show proof of a negative test or full vaccination.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement last month that the city will clear venues to reopen at 33% in the month of April.

Electric Forest postpones to August amid evolving COVID-19 considerations

Electric Forest postpones to August amid evolving COVID-19 considerationsElectric Forest Credit Anthony Norkus

Electric Forest has announced a postponement of their original 2021 festival dates after assessing ongoing “COVID-19 considerations.” Organizers posted the announcement on social media and their website, explaining that evolving nationwide discussions related to large gatherings, vaccination timelines, and social distancing regulations were a few of the key considerations when making the decision to postpone.

Organizers also share that if the festival does take place in 2021, it will now happen in August. This does not come as a surprise given the White Lake Beacon reported in January that the Rothbury Village Council approved dates in June as well as securing two additional alternative weekends for the festival in August. According to Village clerk Carol Witzke, the alternate dates are August 12 – 15 and August 19 – 22, which were reported when the 2021 festival date was announced in January.

The announcement verbiage indicates that a 2021 festival is still uncertain. With reopening looking more promising amid vaccination efforts in addition to festivals implementing entry standards requiring either a negative COVID test or proof of vaccination, there is certainly a hopeful path forward for events like Electric Forest. 2021 would be Electric Forest’s rescheduled 10th anniversary celebration, and organizers will keep attendees updated on the status of the festival here.

Eric Prydz reschedules HOLOSPHERE shows for 2022

Eric Prydz reschedules HOLOSPHERE shows for 2022Epic Holosphere 9 1

As artists and festivals begin to lock in dates for the second half of 2021, the rush to return to live events has created inevitable scheduling conflicts. Now, Eric Prydz and his fan-favorite HOLOSPHERE show have found themselves caught in the crossfire, and reluctantly were forced to reschedule dates to next year.

The conflict in question comes from Tomorrowland‘s recent move to dates August 26 – 29, which clashes with Creamfields. Both festivals have vested interest in hosting a HOLOSPHERE performance. Eric Prydz and his team released a press statement explaining,

“Due to Tomorrowland announcing they are moving to the same weekend as Creamfields, it is now impossible for Eric’s team to transport and build the Holosphere in time to play both festivals. As Creamfields and Tomorrowland are both equally invested in Holosphere, a mutual decision to move the shows to 2022 has been reluctantly taken.”

Though no specific dates have been announced yet, fans can rest easy knowing that HOLOSPHERE will return when the time is right.
