Synthesist Martin Stürtzer shared his live ambient/Berlin School performance from Superbooth 2022.

“After two and a half years of playing (mostly) at home, it was a pleasure to bring my synthesizers on stage at Superbooth 22 in Berlin,” notes Stürtzer. “This live set was built around Ableton Live as MIDI sequencer and audio mixer. All sounds are from the Waldorf Iridium, Waldorf M, Oberheim Xpander, Moog Sub37 and Eurorack Modular.”

Thomas Xavier uncovers Pharaoh Phonix’s first compilation, ‘Pharoah’s Gold Vol. 1’Pharoahs Gold

In the time since Pharaoh Phonix‘s February foundation, Thomas Xavier has steadily amped up his label’s activity with a slew of his own original productions, as well as signings from invited tastemakers like Flynninho (“Sicario Mode“) and Chomper (Check It EP). In the midst of jumpstarting what has proven to be an imprint of promise, Xavier has also curated Pharaoh’s Chamber, a recurring event series hosted at The Miramar Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pharaoh Phonix’s recent music and event dealings considered, it’s only natural that Xavier’s sonic home base is now adding its first compilation album to its sprawling list of accomplishments. Keeping with the label’s Ancient Egyptian imagery, Pharoah’s Gold Vol. 1 collates submissions from Xavier, who assumes album-opening duties on track one, “I’m A Boss”; black a.m., who appears alongside Xavier on “Say You Got Me”; Chomper; St.Sinny; and ELEVATD, who closes out the project in gilded fashion with Xavier on “P&B.”

For those who’ve identified with Thomas Xavier and the Pharaoh Phonix sound, Pharoah’s Gold Vol. 1 will serve as a welcome extension of the outside-the-box technics that have defined the label. For those new to it, the compilation album is a crash course in the idiosyncratic style that’s steadily appeared to ears in the house scene. Whichever of those two listening groups you belong, Pharoah’s Gold Vol. 1 can be streamed in full below.

3rd Wave Advanced Wavetable Synth Takes Classic PPG Wave Design To A New Level

[embedded content]

Ahead of the 2022 NAMM Show, new synth maker Groove Synthesis has introduced the 3rd Wave, an advanced wavetable synth keyboard that takes the classic PPG Wave design to a new level.

Like the PPG Wave, 3rd Wave pairs wavetable oscillators with analog filters. It features 24-voice polyphony and 4-part multi-timbral performance capability, which means it’s like having four independent 6-voice synthesizers in one keyboard.

Each of its 3 oscillators per voice can be a classic PPG-era wavetable, a modern high-resolution wavetable or an analog wave shape. You can create up to 64 custom wavetables of your own with 3rd Wave’s Wave Maker tool, which features sample-to-wavetable capability. You can also connect an audio source to the built-in audio input and generate a wavetable at the touch of a button.

Other features include Linear FM, a 6-stage wave envelope per oscillator, 4 envelopes and 4 LFOs with delay, dual effects per part, a pattern/song based sequencer per part, and a 16-slot mod matrix.

Full specifications are still to be announced.
