“Everything was recorded into Ableton Live with no click. Additionally we added Luftrum field recordings into the mix afterwards for some extra ambience. The vocals and field recordings had some extra spatial effects added from Glitchmachines Fracture and Hysteresis plugins.”

HQ2 Nightclub and HQ2 Dayclub — home to the largest outdoor pool party on the East Coast — are welcoming a star-studded lineup of international DJ talent to America’s original seaside resort town for the first-ever Lucy The Elephant Weekend.

Commencing on August 5th and concluding on August 8th, fans will be treated to performances from global stars including DJ Snake, Tiesto, Dombresky, Kim Lee, Fergie, and Markus Schulz. All will come together in the name of supporting the restoration of Lucy The Elephant, the oldest and most beloved roadside attraction in the United States.

Lucy the Elephant was built by developer, James Lafferty, in 1881, as a gimmick to attract buyers to his land holdings along the coast of South Atlantic City (now Margate). Eventually, a popular hotel was built near Lucy. Presidents and royalty came from around the world to stay at the neighboring Elephant Hotel and climb the stairs to Lucy’s howdah.

During her history, Lucy has survived hurricanes, ocean floods, and even a fire. However, by the 1960’s it became apparent there was one disaster Lucy could not overcome – neglect. By that time, the once proud jewel of the South Jersey coast has become an almost hopeless, wretched wreck.

In 1970, Lucy was sold to the Save Lucy Committee for $1 as the land she stood on was slated for condo development. Lucy was moved to her current location and restoration began. 52 years later and standing along the ocean’s edge, the elements have taken their toll on Lucy.

Lucy is now in the final stages of a $2 million exterior restoration project. To date, more than $1.5 million has been raised. To help raise these additional funds and to bring wider attention to Lucy, The Ocean Casino Resort and HQ2 Nightclub/Dayclub decided to launch Lucy The Elephant Weekend with a portion of the proceeds going towards the project.

“The Save Lucy Committee could not be more thrilled that Atlantic City’s NEWEST casino resort and America’s OLDEST roadside attraction have teamed up to benefit the ongoing major restoration project at Lucy the Elephant,” said Richard Helfant, Executive Director and CEO of the non-profit organization. “Elephants have always been a symbol of good luck and we are hopeful that Lucy will bring good luck and good fortune to all those attending this exciting weekend at HQ Nightclub/Beachclub and Ocean Casino Resort. We are extremely grateful to the staff and management of Ocean Casino Resorts and Lou B Industries for bringing these two iconic symbols of Atlantic City together.”

Born and raised in El Paso, TX, Riot Ten exploded into the world of dance music at the age of 22 while SAYMYNAME put HARD TRAP on the map and defined a new genre. The track comes out just as its name implies — absolutely “Loco.” An insane asylum in sonic form, the pair deliver an onslaught of aggressive kicks and a ribcage shaking bass line while SAYMYNAME’S inimitable vocal delivery brings the festival hype to this hardstyle monstrosity.

Raymond Scott – Playdate From Soothing Sounds For Baby (Unofficial Music Video)

Raymond Scott is a unique character in electronic music history. He’s described by his heirs as a “Composer, inventor, visionary, pianist, engineer, electronic music pioneer, control freak.”

Scott was initially known as a composer and band leader, and is probably best for his complex “descriptive jazz” compositions from the ’30s, which became the classic sound of cartoons, when his compositions were adapted to score Looney Tunes animations. Scott also found success writing music for Broadway, popular song and lounge and exotica records.

Scott was fascinated with using electronics to make music, and founded Manhattan Research in 1946, to create tools for electronic music, including the Clavivox, Electronium, drum machines and early sequencers.

In 1964, Scott released a series of albums of electronic music for infants, the three-volume collection of Soothing Sounds For Baby. It’s questionable how much insight Scott had into infants, given that he was reportedly a hands-off and even distant parent.

Soothing Sounds For Baby is a collection of quirky electronic pieces that Scott apparently thought would be soothing for infants. In 1964, though, nobody was interested in a three-album collection of weird electronic music for babies. The albums were rediscovered by electronica fans decades later, though, and are now seen as way ahead of their time, both technically and musically.

The Brendan and Cory music video for The Music Box seems odd, naive and maybe a little disturbing, which seems like a perfect match for Scott’s music.

Few acts in dance music history have blown up as quickly as—or to the viral extent of—the Staten Island-born sensation known best as ACRAZE. It was as recently as 2018 that the bright-eyed producer was celebrating 5,000 followers on SoundCloud by dropping free new music, but just a few short years later, the 26 year old is simply on a different wavelength, blazing a new trail forward at a breakneck pace.

This all comes largely due to the release of “Do It To It,” which has effectively transcended dance music and asserted itself into the heart of modern pop culture. Since it was first dropped by ACRAZE himself as the ball dropped on 2020, and its subsequent release last August, “Do It To It” has not only been remixed by the iconic likes of Tiesto and Subtronics, or streamed over five hundred million times on Spotify alone, but has been an absolute viral sensation, being used in more than 3.2 million videos on TikTok as well. Sure, the track has made ripples through dance music, like when Zedd opened his own wave making EDC set by chopping and screwing the drop of “Do It To It” with the theme of Squid Game, but the eminent single has also managed to do something that even many of dance music’s biggest hits cannot. It’s attained the coveted “oh yeah, that song” status among the millions who couldn’t name a DJ if their lives depended on it.

Now, the Orlando-based ACRAZE is on his global blaze of glory, the Do It To It Tour, taking his blistering “R&Bass house” sound to the forefront of the European dance scene.  With a smattering of IDs and vibrant personal charisma to boot, ACRAZE is poised to make stops at legendary events this summer, with marquee billings at Tomorrowland, and of course ID&T’s infamous Sensation. With nothing but glamor on the horizon, the recent Capitol Records signee sat down with Dancing Astronaut to discuss what comes after “Do It To It,” staying humble, and becoming the world’s biggest bedroom producer.

“I love playing it, but I feel like everyone right now is trying to follow that ‘Do It To It’ wave and I’m trying to kind of step back from it.”

admits ACRAZE, describing the trendsetting sound of his inescapable 2021 single. That’s not to say that dance music’s new kid on the block is looking to pack it in—anything but, as the American DJ is set to play nearly 50 European shows during the months of July and August alone. “‘[Do It To It]’ is kind of like my sound, but I want to build something and be considered one of those people who transcends. Make something new and then continue something else,” he continues.

Enthused as ever, ACRAZE is perpetually ready to flip the sonic script, but finding the right sound to follow in the wake of a tsunami like “Do It To It” doesn’t come without its new pressures, even if they’re from within. “You have a song like this and like, you want to put something out next, and you want to have records ready, but I was never ready for this moment—no one is! I’ve got a hundred songs, but I never show them to anybody because I’m super insecure about them and I don’t want to hear their opinion about them.” 

It’s here that one of the magical elements behind ACRAZE truly shines. It’s hard to argue that he’s not currently one of electronic music’s most in-demand forces, but it’s also clear that the prodigal house act is still adjusting to his new seat at the top of the heap. “I watched this thing on deadmau5 [recently],” ACRAZE recalls. “He makes a song, puts it in a vault and sends them to his team and just says, ‘Yo you guys figure out what you like and what you don’t like.’ And that’s how he put out ‘Strobe.’ He never even liked it that much and it ended up being one of his biggest songs.” But amidst all of the newfound glory and the perpetual grind, it’s also abundantly clear that ACRAZE is taking the rare opportunity to cherish his ascent. As we sit for this interview, it is 2:00 a.m., and Sensation is at full throttle all around us. Suffice it to say the atmosphere was buzzing, but even in an overstimulating environment like that, the chart-topping, platinum-certified DJ had no trouble finding the time to stop and smell the roses for a moment, and take the time to exude appreciation for the position that he currently finds himself in.

Furthermore, recognizing that while one feasts, recalling the times of famine can do wonders for their humility. Escaping to memory lane for a brief flash as Sensation unfolded around us, ACRAZE recalls, “[I] remember sleeping on the futon, eating McChickens and ramen noodles everyday, and just making music. Those times actually humble me, y’know?”

The past 18 months have seen ACRAZE achieve lightyears beyond what most DJs and producers hope to accomplish in a lifetime. From vying for a spot in EDC’s Discovery Project to judging it, from mixing the world’s biggest bass acts, to being remixed by the world’s biggest bass acts, the Florida-stationed producer is currently speed running through dance music’s ranks, but that doesn’t mean that he sees himself any differently. While discussing the doors opening in front of him, ACRAZE notes, “​​I’m getting into the studio with all of these great writers. It’s sick, but it’s something that I’ve never done because I’ve always been a bedroom producer– in my bedroom, making music by myself.”

It’s a term that some shy away from or have even shaded in the past, though when asked if he embraces the term, a spark is lit in ACRAZE’s line of sight.

“Oh, I embrace it, I still am.” He continues, “To all of my bedroom producers, keep making music—you never know what will pop. Be experimental and be you, just know how to make an idea, like it, and move on. Don’t get stuck on too many things. I feel like I’ve grown as a person and I love where I’m going but bedroom producers are where it’s at. Those are the greatest geniuses in my opinion.”

With nothing but glamor and hard work on the horizon, and his humble beginnings in the not so distant past, the whole world awaits ACRAZE’s next move. There’s no guarantee that lightning will strike in the same form as last year’s “Do It To It,” but one thing’s for sure, with a packed tour schedule and live sets that are brimming with sizzling new releases, ACRAZE is undoubtedly here to stay.

Teddy Swims‘ sublime vocals on ILLENIUM‘s newest single “All That Really Matters” make for the perfect match between the Atlanta-based singer and Dancing Astronaut‘s Artist of the Year in 2021. The new single was originally debuted during ILLENIUM’s brace of dates at Washington’s Gorge Amphitheatre. Just a few weeks later, the Fallen Embers producer would bring out Teddy Swims during his performance at Bonnaroo where he finished his set with what is now his newest single.

With “All That Really Matters,” ILLENIUM continues to prove that in service of his fans he’ll continue to try new things as his catalog grows. While certainly one of melodic bass’ foremost torch bearers, as we saw on Fallen Embers Deluxe, the Chicago-born producer is more than willing to dabble in other styles. “All That Really Matters” is a love song at heart. Backed by Teddy Swims tear-inducing vocals, ILLENIUM lays down a track that, in a word, is simply beautiful. It’s a euphoric dance-pop track along the lines of past records like “Beautiful Creatures,” “In Your Arms”, and more recently “Don’t Let Me Let Go.” The back-and-forth from heavy melodic bass and dubstep to pop-forward dance tracks is a double edged sword that few are able to wield with such success.

ILLENIUM is fresh off the announcement of his second-ever TRILOGY show. The inaugural 2021 edition was held during Independence Day weekend in Las Vegas where the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium played host to the highest attended single headliner dance music event ever in the United States. The second edition of TRILOGY is set for June, 2023 and will be land at the Denver Broncos’ Empower Field at Mile High. Just like last year, he will once again be playing three sets: an Ashes/Awake set, an Ascend/Fallen Embers set, and the debut of a brand new live show to close things out. With his last three albums coming two years apart and TRILOGY:COLORADO penned in for approximately two years from Fallen Embers, fans have rightfully wondered if a new album could be on the way. BEON1X Open Mind Music Festival will make its debut over two weekends in the Larnaca District of Cyprus. From September 23 25 and September 30 October 2, BEON1X will bring the hottest names in house and techno to the small island in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Even though this marks the first year for the festival, the event has already recruited the likes of Carl Cox, Boris Brejcha, Jamie Jones, Luciano, and many more for the two weekend event.

The beach-based event is expected to bring top-tier programming to match a stellar initial lineup. Watersports, beachside football, food, drinks, and more will all be available at BEON1X, making for an all-encompassing festival weekend of seaside hedonism. For several years, longstoryshort‘s world went largely silent. For two to three years, the producer who, at the apex of his previous project, was “headlining clubs and playing dream-come-true festivals,” let Ableton go dormant. Fettered by bad deals and “one of those contracts you read about when you open up the ‘idiots guide to music industry’ as a ‘what not to do,’” he took a decisive step away from music, leaning into “a regular job” and the currents of culture shock.

Dismounting the peak came with perspective—the type that allows one to hit the reset button in the process. And like a phoenix rising from the ashes—lessons learned the hard way in a notoriously ironfisted industry—he dusted off Ableton and laid the early foundation of the longstoryshort project.

The New York native anonymously activated the alias in 2019 with “Back to the Start.” In the three years replete with singles and EPs that have followed, longstoryshort has ascended again. And this time, he sees the forest for the trees. redemption, released May 20 via JustUs Recs., is the sonic embodiment of the strife that permeated the then and the not-so-distant past. It doubles as a primer in longstoryshort sound, he says. “When you find this and you’re new to me, this is that seven-track thing you can put on and really dive into my world,” he told Dancing Astronaut, adding that redemption has provided the platform for him to “finally feel like [he is] freed of [his] creative battles.”

In an exclusive Q&A with Dancing Astronaut, longstoryshort discussed the EP’s conceptualization, its lows and highs, and the creative angles behind the visual accompaniments that render redemption an audiovisual experience. Read the interview below ahead of his July 31 performance at HARD Summer Music Festival‘s Corona Stage.

The redemption EP is your most expansive project to date. How did the making of this EP differ from that of your others, such as Chapter 1 (Warfare)?

longstoryshort: “This took WAY longer for starters; it was more focused on songwriting and vibe than the previous EPs, where I think I was still trying to fully discover my sound on the production side. I think I’m at a point now where I have developed my own sonic style and this time around, I focused on pure vibe and just the overall flow, the storytelling side of things. I really wanted to create a product that felt cohesive from front to back and was less about club playability and more about just bringing people into my world to see the journey I went through since I started this project.”

Conceptually, what is the story behind redemption?

longstoryshort: “I went through a pretty rough period of life before starting the longstoryshort project. I had quit music, felt pretty defeated after my previous project, and was trying to figure out how to do life without making music, so I did the normal job thing and it just was so out of my comfort zone. Life went from festivals, touring, and non-stop excitement to straight mundane routine. I couldn’t even bring myself to open Ableton and at one point, I tried helping a friend with a song and it felt like I completely forgot it all. The power of the mind is so crazy—I learned that if you really believe you’re never gonna win, you really start losing.  

I started seeing the side of making good consistent money, which was nice, finally started having a ‘normal’ life and put things back together, but it just wasn’t making me any happier, so I found myself really digging deep and I realized, ‘is this really how I want to go out? Is this really the legacy I’m gonna leave, just make a few records that buzz, play some of the earlier slots at festivals and just keel over and quit—go work a normal job and just write off this whole run as done for?  

So I started making music again. redemption is about coming back to redeem myself—I’m not really at war with anyone but myself, but it’s a fight I gotta win. I gotta redeem myself and prove to myself I can do this shit again for real.”

What does redemption reflect about the longstoryshort sound?

longstoryshort: “Some of the tunes I make like ‘On The Low’ are just straight club bangers, but for me, this EP is the foundation. When you find this and you’re new to me, this is that seven-track thing you can put on and really dive into my world. I wanted to give people something to listen to that’ll put them in my world and really them you kind of escape their reality and enter mine for a bit. I hope that translates for the listeners.”

Can you take listeners into the thought process behind the EP’s visual supporting elements?

longstoryshort: “So I dropped a video every week and they’re pretty to the point. I think nowadays, it’s a little crazy to have five-minute videos on any platform, so I tried to keep it quick and exciting. The trailer for ‘Gone’ was about my journey through my past project and the sense of relief when I left it, but also the world around me changing. I wasn’t sure it was a good move to even start getting back into music again, but I figured I’d just start dropping stuff online, new name, new project, never really share it on my old socials and just start fresh. It was brutally challenging— starting at zero followers is NO joke! I told maybe less than 10 people I was making music again, partially because I didn’t want any preconceived notions of the music since it was a pretty big sonic change for me.

‘Ready to Die’ was the opposite vibe. We all know how 2020 and 2021 went, and like I said earlier, I knew I couldn’t go out quitting like I had before, so I really grinded out a long period of time making tunes and just trying to get my reps in to get my skill back up to where it was and where it needed to be to really break all the noise out there and focus up. Eventually, some shows came after a hell of a lot of sacrifice socially and time-wise, and that’s something I kinda wanted to show people— just the grind of sitting there every day for two to three years. The phone call at the end was because most of my friends know, when I’m quiet, I’m working…and they started figuring out the deal!

The last video was simple and a bit more open to interpretation.  We actually snuck onto this rooftop in the projects in the city, and filmed it at like 1:00 a.m., just me hanging off a 50-something story building. To be honest, I just wanted to make something striking visually, something you see and are like, ‘damn, what is he doing?!’ It’s also the first time I show my face in three years of this project and to be honest, I finally feel like I’m freed of my creative battles. This project is something that means a lot to me; it’s pretty much unapologetically me and what I’m on. I know there’s trendier things and faster ways to ‘break’ into the industry, but this is me. I’m doing me 100%, and I’m not really stressing any of the outside bullshit…I stressed that stuff for so long that it ruined my love for the craft. Now, it’s just about being in love with the craft of making tunes and putting that energy out there.”

The Thyme effects processor is described as ‘a sequenceable robot-operated digital tape machine’. It’s a stereo effects processor, designed for the exploration the space between classical multi-effects categories (delay, phaser, reverb, chorus, pitch shifter, multi-tap delay, tape delay, tremolo, vibrato, compressor).

Bastl announced that the are retiring Thyme via Twitter:
